As the world seem to fade to black and her consciousness disappeared, a sort of light seemed to reawaken her senses. Jya was blinded at first but soon she swore she saw a figure. It was a woman, slim, tall with beautiful blonde hair. The details were indecipherable. A voice came out, soft and comforting, it attracted her full attention in no time.
"Oh child of darkness, how you have suffered in time. Most would succumb to the violent ailment that strips you of your senses. So innocent, yet corrupt by the society of the world. At least you truly understand the meaning and values of friendship. Do not fear, the light welcomes you. Your sense of the world may be twisted but light still resides in your heart, I believe one day you will find your true path."
It was strong and it seemed to resonate within Jya. At parts she heard the sadness in the woman's voice. The sound brought tears to her eyes.
"Now go, your friend awaits you, it is not your time. You have much to do and I hope for the best," she said. The farewell was brief and the warmth slowly faded.
Jya gasped for air as she awakened. The world seem so new, beautiful, brighter. She wasn't sure why. At first she looked at her hands, they no longer appeared as pale as once before. Then a sudden and violent reaction happened within her body. She began to cough and hack like never before. It wasn't the most painful thing she experienced in her life but it felt disgusting.
Black liquid seemed to be vomited out of her body. It appeared to be like black blood. The substance was thicker though, almost the consistency of syrup. This continued on for a few minutes until it finally subsided. What was going on with her body?

Valorian dropped the staff in shock when the arrow pushed itself from her back, and the wound seemed to close. She was moving...she was alive! He was in shock in the midst of her attack...she was alive...this was real. "Oh thank god you're alive!" He exclaimed as she leaned up. "Jya I thought...I thought I'd lost you...Oh god." He mumbled out as he turned her over, finding his own arm healed. It was odd, but he didn't give it any thought. He looked down on her, the remains of tears streaming down his face as he looked upon her with a smile of pure joy.
She was alive, that was all that mattered. "Jya I...thank you...thank you so much for living. I don't know what I would have done without you." He said, trying to help her into a sitting position. "Are you all right? Do you need your medicine?" he asked, wiping the leftover tears from his eyes as he watched her closely.
Hmm, she actually looked healthier then she had been before she'd been hit with the arrow.

As the last of the black liquid was expelled, Jya realized she felt much better. Hell. She felt better than she ever felt in her whole life. With little effort she was on her feet again. It didn't feel like she should be sitting. She blinked her eyes a couple of times, it felt like she was seeing the world in a whole new way. Everything was stronger than before, the colors were brighter, she swore she could see even farther and the scent of the world was so much stronger. Hmm, something smelled burned...
"Yeah, I'm fine, I don't think I need my medicine," she said. She didn't even feel like a cough was coming up at all. She looked around puzzled for a minute. Her body felt light, she swore she could run a mile without keeling over dead. Something along those exaggeration.
"Totally fine..."

Valorian stood back and watched her get to her feet, observing her quietly. She was steady on her feet, and if it weren't for the tremendous blood stain on the back of her cloak, one would never know she was even injured. Valorian looked over her, confused and relieved at once...she didn't even seem sick...wait..sick?!
Valorian moved to the staff, and plucked it from the ground. "I've carried this thing for years, and I have never met anyone who knows what it is. It cuts the dark creatures like a sword of sharpest steel, it brings people back from the brink of death...and I think it cured you." He said, turning to her. "People say I am crazy, but I swear this staff has a will of its own, and it decides what it wants to do. The last man I used it on claimed he had a vision. You were there for that if I recall, back when we were with the Etrurian Army. So tell me, did you see anything?"
What was the hunk of wood and gem that could work miracles? And how had it fallen into the hands of a wretch like him?

Jya blinked a few times and looked down on her hands. She definitely looked less pale, her body wasn't lagging and it made no complaints like it usually did. It felt almost like a dream, it was too good to be true. Tears began to stream down her own face, if it was a dream than it would disappear when she woke up...right? She was so distracted by her own thoughts, she almost didn't catch Valorian's question. Yes, she did see something.
"A woman," she began, wiping the tears from her eyes.
"Tall, blonde, beautiful, she said I was some child of darkness," she continued, she had a few questions herself. Her body had other thoughts though, after the initial realization subsided, she felt an urge. Her energy level rose and she felt like...like...simply running.

"Child of darkness..." Valorian repeated. That wasn't anything good, yet she had been restored. What ever spirit dwelled in this staff, it had wanted her to live on. So then, had it wanted her to change somehow?
"You've always been a mystery to me Jya." Valorian admitted. "I knew from the moment I met you that you were innocent. You saw the world in a way that many people never could. A very simple and clear cut way. I've never met someone like you, but I need to say this and you need to hear it. Killing for money is wrong. It is an evil thing, and if you continue down that path, I'm afraid you won't keep that innocence for long."
He paused, looking over at the charred remains of the man that nearly killed her. "Violence is sometimes needed. But I am going to help you to understand where and when." He got up and saw that the horse had not run terribly far, and stood some hundred yards away grazing on some grass.
"Ah, excellent. Some transportation would be nice." He said, eyeballing the horse. "We can talk about all this seriousness later, for now let us continue..." A pause. "And Jya?"
He smiled to her. "Thank you for coming with me."

Jya pondered at what Valorian was saying. She never felt that her job was ever paying off. Truthfully she never got paid...at all! Now that she thought about it, she always run off before getting her payment. If Val wanted to teach her something, she'll listen. She gave a shrug but when he thanked her, she really didn't understand why. Friends help each other and thats what she believed in. The others back in town could take care of themselves, she was sure she would see them again.
"No problem," she said in her usual cheery tone.
"You don't mind if I walk do you?"

Valorian arched an eyebrow at Jya's request, but nodded. "By all means, go ahead. It's handy to have a horse sometimes, if for nothing else then when you get tired."
He smiled all the way to the wayward mount, and saddled up as he prepared to leave these plains behind.
"Well then. Let's head north, Ilia awaits!" He said, feeling more determined then he had before. He and Jya could pull this off. He had the strategy and she had the cunning, with the pair of them no foe would be able to escape. And likely this trip would see more then their share of foes.

Chelsea woke up with a big yawn. Sliding out of bed, she stretched out and went over to her bag to find a change of clothes. She changed sleepily, realizing half way through that she was trying to put her shirt on backwards. When she was finally dressed, she drowsily made her way down to where everyone else had gathered. Muttering a sleepy hello, she sat down next to Kelvin and rested her head on his shoulder. She was about to ask for a bite of his breakfast when she noticed someone sitting on the outskirts of their little party. After sleepily wiping her eyes to make sure she wasn't seeing things, she said "Karina?"
